The details
Dubai opened a five-kilometre expansion of Emirates Road on 30 August, adding two lanes for traffic travelling from Sharjah towards the Wadi Al Amardi area.
The project increased the road from six to eight lanes and raised capacity from approximately 12,000 to 16,000 vehicles per hour. RTA said the work could reduce journey times by up to 25% during peak periods.
Emirates Road carries more than 240,000 vehicles daily in both directions and links Dubai with Sharjah and the Northern Emirates. It also serves residential communities, industrial areas and logistics corridors.
The improvement is intended to support people commuting between Sharjah and Dubai, although the effect on traffic will depend on demand and on the performance of connecting roads.
