Dubai completed 72% of its upgrade from card-based nol payments to account-based digital ticketing. The planned system will support QR tickets, bank cards, digital wallets, linked family cards and automatic top-ups.
The details
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority said it had completed 72% of the project to upgrade the nol system from card-based ticketing to account-based digital payments.
The project is scheduled for completion by the end of the first quarter of 2027. Planned features include QR-code ticketing, new-generation nol cards, bank-card and digital-wallet payments, automatic top-ups and the ability to link multiple cards to one customer account.
Users will also be able to manage cards belonging to family members, allocate top-up amounts, view transaction statements, block cards and recover balances. The upgraded nol system is intended to support a more integrated payment ecosystem across Dubai’s public transport and other services.
RTA said the project would be introduced in phases, so not all features are necessarily available to every passenger immediately.
